The Department's Vector Control Program's primary function is to educate the public regarding vectors and their impact on public health. A vector is defined as any animal capable of transmitting the causative agent of human disease or capable of producing human discomfort or injury, including, but not limited to, mosquitoes, flies, other insects, ticks, mites, and rats, but not including any domesticated animal.
The Department responds to vector nuisance complaints associated with the solid waste, recreational health, liquid waste, on-site, and the food programs. Most recently, West Nile Virus (WNV) has become a concern throughout the Continental United States. The Department is working in conjunction with the State Department of Health Services-Vector Borne Disease Section regarding this issue.
The goal of this program is to limit transmission of mosquito and vector borne diseases.
